Mission Statement The Mission Statement of the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Association is to honour and celebrate Canadians for outstanding contributions to the Agriculture and Food Industry and to publicize the importance of their achievements to Canada. About Us The Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame Association was inaugurated in 1960 to recognize persons who have made outstanding contributions to Canadian Agriculture, the form of that recognition “to include the hanging of their portraits in a suitable gallery”. The Association is a not-for-profit administered by a board of 12 directors; 3 each from Eastern Canada, Western Canada, Ontario and at large. The Objectives of the Board of Directors is to recognize persons who have made an outstanding contribution to Canadian agriculture; to record and display biographical information pertaining to the inductees; and to promote interest in the study of agriculture generally. The Gallery Since 1960 the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ontario has been home to the gallery. Portraits of each Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame inductee are showcased and open to visitors each November during the Royal Agricultural winter Fair and throughout the year by appointment. The gallery is dedicated to the appreciation of excellence by men and women whose special talent and expertise have influenced all facets of the Agricultural sector. In 1995-96, the construction of the National Trade Center gave the portrait gallery a new home. In November, 1996, the new gallery was officially opened by Lyle VanClief and then Hall of Fame President Richard Huggard with help from a prize Simmental heifer. In 1997, the Gallery was re-dedicated in a special ceremony by the Rev. Carl Sulliman, Chaplain of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The Gallery was updated during the summer of 2016 with a fresh coat of paint, new steel display racks, better signage and new carpet. An official Grand Opening was held Sunday, November 6 with then President Herb McLane cutting the ribbon.
The Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame gallery is a precious archive of the Agriculture and Food Industry in this bountiful land. Induction Ceremony Each year, an induction dinner and portrait unveiling ceremony is held. The evening event honours the work and impact on Canada’s wellbeing of the chosen inductees. Applications to the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame are made annually to the Association. The nominees are judged on their contribution to agriculture in Canada through their chosen work and leadership. Inductees are chosen by the Board of Directors.
